Ann Arbor Painters works on houses, condominiums, rentals and business premises in Ann Arbor and in the towns close by, from Ypsilanti and Saline out to Dexter and Chelsea. The work includes interior rooms, full exteriors, kitchen and bath cabinets, decks and fences, plus the repairs that go with them, such as patching walls and taking down wallpaper. The company is licensed and insured. Every job gets a free estimate and a quote in writing.
Two things shape painting here: the age of the buildings and the Michigan climate. Much of the city was built before 1950, with wood siding and plaster walls under many old coats, some of which may contain lead. Winters bring snow and repeated freezing and thawing, and summers are warm and damp. Outside paint only lasts when loose layers are removed, bare wood is primed and joints are sealed. Inside, old plaster and glossy trim need repair and sanding first.
A job starts with a visit. We look at the surfaces, measure, and ask what you want changed. The written quote that follows lists the areas, the preparation, the number of coats and the price. On the agreed day we cover floors, furniture and plants, do the repairs and priming, and then paint. We tidy up at the end of each day. When the work is finished, we go over it with you and correct anything you find before we leave.

We recently bought an older home, and the exterior desperately needed new paint. The old colors were faded, and there were cracks everywhere. The painting team came out and did a full inspection, explained what repairs were needed, and gave us a clear quote. Once they got started, they moved quickly but never rushed. Every corner and edge was done with care. The best part? They finished ahead of schedule and left the…

The team did an outstanding job! They were responsive, dependable, and adapted well to a tight schedule for a big project. Painting cabinets requires precision and expertise, and they nailed it in every way. The cabinets look flawless, the walls are perfect, and they finished the work despite setbacks from other contractors. The project manager was transparent during the quote process and set realistic expectations—…
The type of results we all hope for but rarely receive. Have you ever had so-called "professional painters" come in, only to discover paint specks left on vanities or door handles afterward? We’ve experienced that before. Ann Arbor Painters, however, delivered the quality we all expect. They also managed to fit us in at the last minute, as we were preparing to get carpet installed. We're already planning to have them…
We wanted a fresh look for our living room and kitchen but were worried about fumes with kids in the house. This team suggested low-VOC, eco-friendly paints that look amazing and had zero smell. They are definitely the most professional interior painters in Ann Arbor. They were punctual, covered all our furniture with care, and the lines around the ceiling are razor-sharp. Our home feels so much brighter and modern n…

Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to paint a house in Ann Arbor?
By national figures published by HomeGuide for 2026, a whole interior costs $3,500 to $10,000 and an average exterior $3,000 to $10,000. Those are not our quotes. Size, prep and the surfaces set your price, and we give it in writing after a free estimate.
When is the best time to paint an exterior in Ann Arbor?
Late May through September is the main season, with good days in April and October. Paint needs dry siding and air above the minimum on the can. Interior work goes on all year.
Do painters need a license in Michigan?
Not for painting alone. Michigan removed painting from its licensed maintenance and alteration trades in 2018. Check a painter's insurance and references. Ann Arbor Painters is licensed and insured.
My house was built before 1978. Does that matter?
Yes. Old paint may contain lead, and the federal RRP rule requires a lead-safe certified firm for paid work that disturbs it above small limits. Ask any painter how they handle it.
Is prep included in your price?
Yes. Patching, sanding, caulking and priming are part of the job and the written quote. We also move and cover furniture and protect floors.
How long does a paint job take?
Most rooms take 1 to 2 days. A full exterior usually takes 3 to 5 days, depending on the size of the house and the weather.
